No Ice....

...at least not yet. Yesterday was Martin Luther King Day so we were off and I spent the day doing basically nothing. The weather was yucky and there were predictions of rain and ice and freezing temperatures. I pretty much stayed home. I didn't really have anything I needed to do and though the thought of going shopping did pop into my head I knew I couldn't afford it. My big adventure was a run to wally world for a few things. As far as things around my place, I pretty much accomplished NOTHING. And then just after six or so I got a call that we'd be closed today and I'd have another day off....WAHOOOOOO...another morning to sleep in.

So here it is just after 4pm and again I've accomplished pretty much nothing. Unless you count making a run to the post office-with everyone else and another trip to wally world to return a shirt. Oh and gas was down to 1.99 so I filled up. But now here I sit in front of the computer when there are so many other things I could and should be doing. Putting away laundry, washing towels, cleaning off my dining table, trying to pick up the spare bedroom so it more favors a bedroom than a war zone, working on my taxes (yes, I have my W2 already), reading one of the many books I've vowed to get through, scrapping even. And yet I sit here in front of the computer wasting precious time and though supposedly the worst of the bad weather is to occur tonight I highly doubt we will be closed again tomorrow and a late start is probalby too much to ask for. We were the only college on the Gulf Coast not closed on Wednesday before hurricane Rita and now I think we're the only (community) college on the Gulf Coast to close for ice that never came. Guess I better get back in the mindset to return to work tomorrow. Oh well.

Winter Finally Arrives....

So it appears that 'winter' or South Texas' version of it has arrived....at least for a day or so. The temperature has dipped and promises to go down for the next day or so-at least according to all weather reports. This afternoon it was chilly and windy as I left for my monthly book club meeting. Forty five miles or so away (north) I arrived at my destination and opened my door to warm air. Not exactly what I was expecting. How is it the cooler weather had arrived at my home but not north of me? I'm sure everything thought I was nuts wearing long sleeves and a jacket. Good thing I didn't put on the heavier sweater I first thought of wearing--I would have been very uncomfortable. And so I'm home, nice and toasty inside (something I wasn't this time a year ago in my former domicile) listening to the rain come down steadily. I wonder if it will really be as nasty and icy tomorrow as the reports predict. Will I be stuck inside all day for safety's sake? Guess I'll just have to wait to see what morning brings. Whatever it may be, at least I can sleep in!

How did it get to be the 10th of the month already??

Ten days into 2007 and it seems to be flying by already. Wait....slow down.......wasn't it just yesterday that it was October? Seems as you get older time begins to move soooo much faster. Really, it does. Think about it. When you're a kid you don't think summer break or Christmas or your birthday is e-v-e-r going to arrive...but finally it does. And then you're a little older and stuck in that one class that you think will never end. Before you know it you're in college or out in the work-force or in the work-force while going to college and you just never seem to have a enough time. And then suddenly it's gone in the blink of an eye.

That's pretty much how I felt about Christmas break (yes Christmas, not winter) this year. Often it seemed so far away and finally it arrived. I had great plans...go to Wichita Falls (which I did), see some movies (never did), catch up on reading (nope), maybe even do some things around home (not even close). Before I knew it, new years had passed and I was returning to work. And now we're back into the grind. Oh what fun. At least spring break is coming!

One More Day....

....just one more day of leisure and then it's back to the daily chaos. This happens every year, the night before my last day of winter break I realize there were so many things I had wanted to do but never quite seemed to fit in. And now of course I want to cram as much as I can into that last day without being totally exhausted at the end.

I didn't really do anything to speak of yesterday or today. Somewhat wasted days really but then sometimes you just have to have some time to do nothing but veg on the couch and watch mediocre television...and that's what I've done. Actually I've been watching marathon showings of Ugly Betty. I'm hooked on this show and can hardly wait to see what happens on the next episode. Must be something about 'rooting for the underdog' that appeals.

I'm not certain what I'm going to tackle tomorrow, on my last day of 'freedom' for a while. I've thought about a trip to the art museum-which I should have done already. I missed the dog in art but still have time to see the cat exhibit-but only limited time as it ends in a couple of weeks.

Guess I'll see what I feel like when I get up in the morning!
