For Louise...
I'm posting these pictures for Louise to see the mini-autograph book I was telling her about on the phone.
Saturday happenings...
You would think since I got up fairly early I would have gotten dressed and out to run errands. Nope. Been spending too much time lounging on the couch--at least I did manage to get a shower, and before noon!
I was just about to make my way to actually get dressed when the phone rang. It was my dear friend Louise so I spent a few minutes gossiping and laughing with her--can hardly wait till our planned outing in October. Looking forward to that week.
So on today's errand list:
Petsmart--food for Willy
Hobby Lobby--adhesive on sale and who knows what other 'goodies' I might find
Post Office--if I can manage to get out of here in the next hour
Not a long list but one that will take some time because there's no telling where I'll end up before I finally call it a day and head home. I keep thinking I'm hearing Archivers calling my name but I don't really need to go there or any other scrapbook store--but then I know me!
So, I'm off......

I am behind...wayyyyyy behind....on Carol's alphabet challenge, but I feel I still have a few days to make good on it. Gimme time......okay, I know I've said that before but you did pick what is one of the most brutal months workwise for this....evey morning this week I've been so tired I could barely drag my lazy arse out of bed and to the office....and yet there are still a couple hundred files for me to review....

Day/Page 3
It's been 30 years...
It was 30 years ago today that my daddy died. I was only 10. He had lung cancer and spent his last days in Hermann Hospital. As I recall there wasn't a great deal known about the type of cancer he had so my guess is his treatment was probably experimental (I don't know this for sure, just speculation on what little I do know/recall and my experiences and knowledge since). I do recall a steel shield beside his bed because of the radiation he was receiving. It was the hospital's way of 'protecting' those who might go to see him. I remember not being able to go around the shield though I do recall reaching across to touch him....and him calling me by name (ok, my nickname, but just the same he knew who I was). That was actually a few days before he died.
He died on a Monday. I hadn't seen him since the Friday or Saturday before basically because I didn't go to the hospital. I was staying with a neighbor and was pretty much allowed to make my own decision about going to the hospital (that was no fun for me and daddy was always sleeping). Thinking back and knowing the neighbor I wouldn't be surprised if she had played a part in my not going. Not that my mother would really listen to her (or anyone) all that much. I was just a kid--what did I know. In retrospect, I wish I had gone. If only.....
I remember waking the morning after (8/23) and looking into the living room and seeing the light on and things that had been at the hospital. And for some reason it seemed odd and yet it didn't. I walked in the living room as mom was going to the kitchen for another cup of coffee and I asked about her being home (because she had been staying at the hospital) and she just looked at me and said 'we lost daddy last night'. I don't know that I was all that stunned. Mom had done what she could to 'prepare' us prior to but even then I don't think I truly understood it all. I vaugely remember her hugging me and then I went to my room to get ready for school (yep, I went to school because it was only the second day that year.) I know I was told I could stay home but I didn't really see any reason to....I remember sitting on the floor in the kitchen with momma fixing my hair while she talked to my cousin (her nephew who was a Houston police officer at the time). I know I went to school--not sure if I walked that day or if the neighbor took me.
I also remember things going 'terribly' wrong at lunch. The neighbor had arranged for me to get free lunch because there was no money coming in at the time and something happened that the cafeteria lady wanted to argue that I wasn't eligible. So there I was trying to get my lunch with no money and trying to resolve the issue. I'm not sure just what finally transpired or if I even got lunch but I was taken or sent to the nurse's office and then I was home (not sure if my brother picked me up or the neighbor). I think that may have been the time when I finally cried. I'm pretty sure it was a few days before I returned to school. And I remained on free lunch for a (very) short while--I remember momma telling me she'd get me off of it just as soon as she could---and she did.

Robin's Page Challenge
This afternoon Robin emailed me and said she challenged me to do a page every night this week and I told her she was on. After watching Greek I headed off to the scrap table and set to work. I am amazed at myself because it only took me about 45 mins to do these TWO pages.
Okay Robin, let's see yours!

Current 'events'
Yes, I know I am majorly behind---gimme time!
I belive I left off on H so I'll start there and H is for HURRICANE. Yep, everyone on and near the Gulf Coast knows hurricane season is in full force and of course, Houston and surrounding areas got slammed by TS Erin earlier this week. And this weekend we're all being prompted to prepare for the impending landfall of Hurricane Dean. Too early yet to tell where it'll hit but always best to stay informed and get prepared. Me, I've done little and am not sure just what my plan would be should it appear to be coming this direction.
Thinking of this has brought back memories of Hurricane Rita back in 2005. Oh what memories! Monday prior to the storm hitting there was an 'emergency' meeting of whatever staff wanted to attend to discuss preparations. So there we are being told by the VP who also happens to be the mayor here of Happyville that they've been informed by the National Weather Service that 'they've never been more certain of the path of a storm and this bitch (though he didn't use that word) was coming straight up the Colorado (River-happens to run through Happyville)'.
What must first be said is that I work in a brick building that is about three feet off the ground. I am also in an office FULL of paper--lots and lots of it and it all contains confidential information. The great plan to 'secure the files' was to move all files out of steel filing cabinets into cardboard boxes that would stacked on pallets and shrink wrapped then moved to the warehouse--a metal building on a concrete slab at ground level. Ok, that appears BRILLIANT.
We had a FIELD DAY with that one. Boss-man though it was particularly funny and that became the answer to everything needing to be secured--shrink wrap it! When I commented about making certain the cat was safe I was instructed to 'shrink wrap it'. Well Boss-man should have known the rest of us would not let that go.
Sooooooo, when he went to lunch, gremlins came in and basically shrink wrapped his office!....the desk, the chair, the computer, the phone, the file cabinet.....and I even found a stuff cat that looked much like Willy that was shrink wrapped and placed in the middle of his desk.
Fortunately for us, Rita turned and we didn't get so much as one drop of rain. But we've gotten a lot of mileage out the shrink wrap story!

Maybe tomorrow.....
Maybe, hopefully by the time Tuesday rolls around I'll get around to updating and catching up. Austin was HOT but somewhat relaxing-despite the head cold (yes, a bit is still hanging on). And so much for my big plans for today to get things done. Woke early, watched JAG and then back to sleep before 8a till nearly 11a (I rarely have such pleasures). After that it was quite a bit of couch time before I made myself shower and dress for a 'date with the chiro'. My being there at 3p threw everyone off as they're used to me being one of the last if not the last patient of the day on Monday. I had a bit of energy after so I met a buddy for coffee--I'll miss our afternoon coffee chats since this is the last week of our summer hours. A quick bite at On the Border-only because I hadn't eaten and didn't feel like driving over the river (Brazos and into Sugar Land) and then home to some more couch time. So here it is nearing 10p and I need to motivate myself to bed. It's going to be a long day back at the office tomorrow and I don't look forward to it. Not just the work part but the 'issues' and on top of it all my boss' mother is not doing well and that brings concern, worry and a flood of memories...
I promise to work on catching up tomorrow and posting some Austin pictures. And if you're interested, Tuesday is 'craft fair day' on QVC so I'm sure I'll try to catch some of that to see what 'goodies' they are telling me I can't live without!

Needing some mojo...
So here it is, Friday. A rare day off, plans for a relaxing weekend in Austin and I have the head cold from HELL. I had hoped to be packed up and on the road by 10a but here it is 10:10a and I'm no where near ready to leave. Need to get crap together, get showered, pick up a bit around here, etc, etc, etc....my next 'goal time' is noon but at the moment I don't think I'll make that either. The cold is taking it out of me and though I've been debating since waking about even going I think it will do me good to get AWAY for a bit. No big plans-Elsa and I rarely actually make any--just hanging out, sleeping in and probably drinking a bit of wine along the way. I'm dragging the carmeras-yes, plural--in hopes of having an opportunity to take some fun 'artsy' shots--Austin's such a cool town for that. And hey, Elsa said she's low on funds and heaven knows I am so I think we can have fun with a sonic drink and a tank of gas and a camera. Maybe I can talk her into hitting the drag and some of the shops on Congress.
I know I'm behind on my challenge but I promise I will catch up after I return. I have Monday (off) to do such things. Hopefully I'll have some fun pictures to share too!
Off the pack.....

Another fun day in paradise...
if only I were in paradise instead of financial aid hell. It's that time of year when families begin to panic because they've done nothing and I am somehow supposed to make it all better. It's the time of year when I am expected to work miracles, turn a blind eye to lying, cheating and outright fraud and overlook the fact that students flunk out. It's the time of year when for some reason people expect me to work twenty four hours a day and feel they are entitled to scream at me for their lack of planning, laziness or outright stupidity. Yep, it's fall registration. And it's all compounded by being short-staffed and dealing with 'colleagues' who care only about themselves. Yep, just another fun day in paradise....
Aug 7 word...Go......unlike most children whose first word is momma or dada...my first word was GO. (My second word was money---see a pattern here?) And GO is something I certainly like to do. I can thank my mother for my wanderlust. I wish I could say more about her childhood, but I can't. What I can say is that she lived in many different states growing up not because her father was military but because times were tough so he traveled to where he could get work. That's really about all I know. So mom was often on the go and once it was just the two of us, even though we didn't have a lot we would often 'go' just to get out. In her last days she would often force herself to 'go' because she thought getting out might help her feel better. We didn't have an immaculate home (I still don't) because mom always said it would be there long after she was gone and I still subscribe to this theory to this day. Why stay home just to clean house when there is world waiting out there? So yes, I love to GO.....and go every chance I get. And this weeking I will GO to Austin!

Let's see how far I get with the challenge...
Got Elvis off my mind for a minute or two so let's see if I can focus on the task at hand.....Carol's challenge.....
Aug 1 (A) Amazed....I (was on the first) and am still amazed at the stupidity of some people (yes, there is a 'story' here but I'll save it).
Aug 2 (B) Behind....I seem to be behind in regards to a lot of things. So many projects that need attention and I can never seem to get around to any of it. What happened? I used to be organized?
Aug 3 (C) ummm, Cute...I found some cute shoes at Kohls, I love 'cute' things.....I'll try to remember to post a picture soon
Aug 4 (D) Okay...thinking out loud I could say Determined....determined to get a few things done around home like putting up laundry that's been sitting on my dryer for too long, getting some things in the mail, working on a few scrapbook pages and goodies instead of spending my time veggin in front of the television or here in front of the computer....
Aug 5 (E)...well it seems the first topic on my mind fits here (I think)--ELVIS....yep, thinking of Elvis...a life wasted in so many ways, a life cut short....the fun mom and I had when we used to eat at Elvis Presley's Memphis...the fun I had at Graceland...and I just found out tonight that EK Success is actually holding Elvis Scrapbooking Classes during Tribute Week...if I were going to be in Memphis, at Graceland this is something I'd make certain to do!
I could also say Elsa here...my dear friend who, if things work out, I will be spending next weekend with in Austin--I can soooo use a weekend get away....
Aug 6 (F) Forgetful...that pretty well describes me lately. Seems I have the memory of a gnat lately...I think it's all stress and overload.....

I heart Elvis...
So I've not kept my promise from yesterday---sue me. At the moment the topic on my mind is Elvis. August is Elvis month on TV Land and I got hooked last night watching Elvis and Me which is based on Priscilla's life with him. At times I think what a jerk he really was and then I'm sucked right back into the glamour.
I was just ten when he died--just six days before my daddy. Of course I knew Elvis but didn't think much of him--or anyone else back then. It wasn't till later I began to 'fall in love' with various artists/celebrities. Shaun Cassidy was probably the first--the first bubble gum crush that didn't last long. And then I found the Oaks (no surprise there). I remember being in love with the bass singer, Richard Sterban. I'm not sure how much later it was that I found out HE had actually sang with Elvis! And who would have thought I'd actually ever get to meet him (Richard, not Elvis) and spend time visiting with him--that's another story and oh what a story (heehee).
So back to Elvis....it's been thirty years this year since he died and no doubt he's bigger (and richer) in death than he ever was in life. I've been to Graceland and found myself 'sucked in'. It's a different feeling-can't explain it. I feel the excitement and the sadness. I guess one of the things it reminds me of most are the simpler times. Oh to be that kid again. To have my daddy and Elvis alive again. To have that innocence back....

Catching Up...
I know I'm a bit behind here. Lots of things running through my head to post but little time (or energy) to do it the past couple of days. Hang on because my plan (we know about plans...) is to catch up tonight--get started on Carol's challenge, add a few other thoughts and some photos as well. For now it' off to shower and get going because Leann's class is at 2p and it's already after 11a (been a busy morning).
Later....
Later....

Sad day.....media icon, Marvin Zindler has passed away. I noticed last night when they showed him in his hosptial bed that he didn't look so good but I didn't think he'd be gone this quick. But then I thought the same with mom.
It's as though a member of the family has gone. A sad day indeed. R.I.P. Marvin.

New Toys
Went to Novel Approach hoping to find cute, new artist stamps. No luck though I did pick up a couple of word stamps. And since I was less than five miles away I went to By Design Scrapbook Boutique and picked up some 30% off goodies (everything in the store was on sale). Nothing earth shattering--some paper and ribbon.
The 'fun' toys were a product of my early Sunday morning Walmart run. Naturally I went down the school supply aisle to see what goodies might there might be and there I found them. Elmer's Paintastics. Basically, paint brushes loaded with quick drying watercolor paints, ready to go. No messy paint trays or water cups. A set of five will set you back just under four bucks. There are three color familes--I got the tropical set but forsee purchasing the other two color packs. Now if these would only come in the colors the paint daubbers do...or perhaps Ranger will follow suit and start making some of these with their colors.

Calgon, take me away...
...problem is, it can't take me far enough and then I'd probably still have to come back and face a ton of crap. Oh well. It's been quite a week at the office. The Big Man (boss) has been on vacation so that leaves me to face it all. No prob. Fortunately as of today there have been no major crisis that I've not been able to handle (at least none of which I am aware). A coworker is convinced psychochick has once again run to HR to complain and it's had me a bit on edge but thinking rationally there have been no major infractions (what's happened in psychochick's mind is another issue). It's just been your average, run-of-the-mill mid-summer financial aid issues. Oh and the lender from hell pissing me off--but I'm sure there's more to come there (another story).
So tomorrow is Friday...glorious Friday. Short day and crop night. Yeah--TWO positives! Hopefully I won't be too bushed to enjoy. And hopefully I'll be able to get some 'scrap mojo' going--been lacking in that department lately.
My other goal has been to update my blog...make it 'prettier'(if that's possible) and add things, like links to my buds. I've managed to figure out how to add pictures--thanks to Picasa I cannot however figure out how to add links. Sooooo, any of you web-tech-savy people who can clue me, help a sista out!

Hairspray...
...saw the movie this morning and I may have to go again. It was great. The casting is great and the music draws you in from the start. I loved, loved, loved the stage production so I could hardly wait for the (new) movie. Very much worth the $5.50 (matinee price but would have been worth full price) and time investment. Good Morning Baltimore.....

Almost Friday...
THANK GOODNESS. Even though I was off Wednesday this feels like one of the longest weeks....and they won't get much better from now till the end of August. But the weekend is just around the corner. For the first time in weeks, I have absolutely NO plans for the weekend. Granted there are many things that need attention that I could (and probably should) do but at the moment nothing looms before me. Now to just get through Friday!

Down Time...
That's what today was. I hate when I'm off and yet wake at the crack of dawn and can't seem to get right back to sleep. Why is that? Work days it's all I can do to wake up and crawl out of bed but some days off I'm wide awake with no problem. But I digress. I did wake early...ran to Whataburger (in my jammies like the college kids do) to get a yummy honey butter chicken biscuit-because I'm addicted to the darn things-then sat on the couch watching JAG and munching, sharing with Willy of course. Watched another episode of JAG at 7a then decided I was sleepy again. (Mom got me hooked on JAG and I've been thinking of getting it on DVD.) I slept till after 10a!
I didn't pop right up but took my time and did basically nothing. Watched a little TV-'vintage' Gilmore Girls-read through a few things on the net and chatted online with Robin. Before I realized it was nearly noon. I finally convinced myself to throw on some clothes and 'take myself out to lunch'. There were a few options running through my mind but I settled on Cheesecake Factory--haven't been there in ages. And though I was thinking my ultimate favorite from there, chicken and biscuits, I got the bbq ranch chicken salad. YUMMY. And even the lunch portion was too big. I didn't eat till I was miserable as I have often done there. And I did get some cheesecake to go....that'll be a nice snack--I usually eat it over the course of a few days.
After CF I made a mad dash to OfficeMax for a digital card that they're out of and won't raincheck--darn it. Then it was Garden Ridge cause Rob tipped me off to a big sale. I got some cute baskets for storage for 75% off--now if I'll just use them to organize! I wish I could have found a couple more in one of the styles. After that I met a Wachovia Boy for coffee at Starbucks. He's a great guy and it's fun to just sit and visit, gossip and vent. I'm so lucky to have such good friends.
So now it's nearing 8p and I'm still trying to convince myself to do some scrapping. I think part of my hesitation is that I fear I will get too involved and have to stop to go to bed since I have to be in the office at 7:30a tomorrow.
Most of all I realize how much I have enjoyed having down time today with no set agenda and no real responsibilities. And it has helped me recharge some. It also helps knowing I only have a day and a half to work before having a weekend!
Guilt...
I am good at self-inflicted guilt. So here it is, mid-July and I still have 35 hours of vacation time to take before the end of August. But looking at the calendar and thinking of all the work that comes with the start of a new semester it's more like August 10 as my 'deadline'. Now Aug. 10, is self imposed but I'm fairly certain my immediate supervisor would agree with that date. So in trying to be the 'good employee' I'm trying to take my time by then. The problem is working around others being out and trying to take the time when it will put the least burden on the office--I still recall the stinging words last year when I was told my being out creates a hardship on the office. So I try to accommodate everyone. Where all this leads is that since yesterday I have been kicking around taking some time off this week. My first thought was to take today and considering the whopper of a headache I had this morning that would have been great but I knew I had an appointment this afternoon. So this morning I was thinking I'll take tomorrow and got a verbal approval. However as the day has worn on and various 'fires' have come up I feel guilty about being out. I feel as though I should be there to take care of things. Hell, some questions this morning had me questioning if I knew what I was doing. So yes, I really could use the down time to try some destressing. It's the middle of the week, things will be piling up and I'll feel the need to work twice as hard on Thursday and I really have nothing planned for the day outside of sleeping in.
So what shall I do on my day off besides feel guilty that I actually took the time I had coming??? Maybe I can finally play with some pictures and paper instead of just thinking of all the things I could do. Or maybe I can unpack some more boxes--the ones that have been sitting neglected for the past year. Or more likely I'll end up just wasting a glorious day off.

EXHAUSTED....
Mondays are my L-O-N-G days....first a full day of hell (work) then off to see my 'chiro boyfriend"-to be known from now on as CBF- and top it off with yoga-chick. So this afternoon I'm running my ass off trying to wait the front counter, answer phones, file and process a few problem files. By the time five arrives I literally feel as though someone has taken me outside and beat the crap out of me. Being ever faithful I race home, leave food for the kitty, change into clothes I really shouldn't be seen in public in (stretchy yoga clothes), drive like a bat-out-of-hell to see the CBF who I think takes great pleasure in seeing what he can do to make me wince in agony or curse on any given day, then head for a session with yoga-chick to try to move in ways this body just doesn't want to go.
Today however somewhere between racing home and then to see the CBF I develop a splitting headache predominantly over my left eye. So by the time I begin my first schedule torture-or therapy as CBF calls it-I am in agony, feeling nauseated and praying it doesn't develop into a full blown migraine in which case I would be screwed and CBF would be 'stuck' with me for probably an hour or so. The tens unit is so bad (muscle stimulation--feels like thousands of little needles, but in a good way, if you've never experienced it) and then the ultrasound. Now I can get into ultrasound....lay down (ahhhh, naptime) while someone basically massages the small of my back with warm gel on an ultrasound head. This always seems to end way too soon. Some days this is more relaxing than others--seems CBF has a revolving staff and some of them don't apply pressure and go too fast while others in the words of "Little Bear" are 'just right'. Today ultrasound was particularly peaceful as it was just the right amount of pressure and the girl didn't feel the need to chatter on. But then it seemed to end way too soon and next it was time to see the CBF. Today is a busy day so I actually have to wait to get in. So sitting there my head feels as though it's about to spin off and I fear the slightest motion will result in unpleasant outcome (reading hurling my toenails). Thankfully that soon passes and then it's my turn 'on the table'. I get a nice back massage-that always ends too soon. I can hear CBF in the next room tell one of the girls to tell me he'll be right with me (as though I can't hear him).
So here I am, face down with my fat ass in the air and my head splitting. The next sensation is the CBF rubbing my back. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, if only it would last a bit longer. Next he begins to stretch and twist my spine trying to get it to align as it should. Unlike some days he only made me wince one time with pressure on my tailbone. He always manages to hit it in just the right way to wince and practically come off the table as he reminds me to 'take it easy' to which I always reply that HE'S the one who needs to take it easy. After all that he hits some pressure points on my neck and face trying to ease the headache--which works until I actually leave his office. Another week with the CBF behind me and now it's off to yoga and what I'd really rather be doing is crawling into bed.
But I drag myself over to yoga-chick's place. She only tries a few new things tonight that make me wince and shake my head no way. There are just some things this fat girl's body isn't meant to do. Yoga-chick is very understanding and forgiving. In fact I think others in the class may actually feel neglected because yoga-chick always seems to spend extra time with me to make certain I'm not doing too much or am doing what I should to benefit my 'wreck of a back' (as CBF refers to it). Tonight's workout didn't seem nearly as intense as some of the others. If fact, I wish my first class had been as easy as tonight. Before I know it, yoga is over and it's time to head back to my side of the sticks--exhausted and ready to climb into bed.
So much for another Monday with the CBF and yoga-chick....

Blogtime Baby...
I have got to do better with the blogging...I manage for a few days and then slack off again. If only I could get organized...maybe then I would manage to blog on a regular basis. Hell if I'd get organized I'd probably get quite a few things done on a regular basis!
All weekend I've been trying to motivate myself to do something constructiver around here--maybe unload a few more boxes (yes, I've been here just over a year and still have boxes but the place is the size of a postage stamp), work a little organizing--heaven knows I could use some of that, work with a few of the hundreds of scrapping supplies I have or even just read some of the many books I continue to buy that pile up in a corner of my bedroom. Which brings me to the question...what happened?? I used to read all the time and would finish a book in no time. The last six months it has taken forever for me to finish a book--not good when you a thing for buying two and three a month. Just another thing to add to my 'to do list'.
The back-to-school stuff is starting to pop up in various stores. I'm hoping for some cute things to add to my place. Still looking for a few accent things now that I've finally settled on a color scheme for the spare bedroom/office/scrapspace. Decided on black with purple accents--unless some other color catches my eye. There's just something about 'back-to-school' time other than it makes me crazy at work with everyone waiting till the last minute. Kinda like Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail when she talks of bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils. Sometimes makes me long for the days of shopping for school supplies. Maybe that's why I like new scrap 'pretties' so much...they remind me of sparkly, new school supplies. Hmmmmm
And here it is Sunday night. Betime will be upon me before I know it and I will have accomplished nothing this evening--no reading, no scrapping. And forget accomplishing anything on Monday night--that's my busiest day/night of the week. After a full day at the office it's the mad dash home to change clothes and run to the chiropractor (or to see my 'boyfriend' as we put it at the office) and then yoga class where it's always too warm (something about 'the practice' and it being 'good' but it's too hot for me!) and there are positions I just can't quite seem to get in or hold for all that long. By the time I get home it's time to drop into bed.
If only I could be a kept woman....

Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy Thing...
...that's the name of Keith Urban's current album (?-is that still the proper term?) and his current tour. His show is AWESOME! Two hours of all-out, hard-core rockin. Even the slow songs that really aren't that slow. The only thing I'm kicking myself about is the fact I didn't buy the tickets in the presale--forgot....and didn't get them about a month ago when I could have gotten lower level. Even so the 'nosebleed' seats weren't too bad for twenty bucks. We had a good view and the fact he has a GINORMOUS video screen at the back of the stage was a major plus. Oh and did I mention how HOT he is??? A lot of people wouldn't see that but it's in the scruffy sort of way. And by about the third or fourth song he's drenched in sweat because he really WAILS on the guitar. My only disappointment would be that HE didn't play banjo....just a couple of his band. It's not that I'm a huge banjo fan but it's cool that he includes it in so much of his music. It's a safe bet I'll be going back to see him next time he swings through town. What a night!!! And what a way to kick off what would have been mother's 85th birthday on Friday.

Run for the Border...
...and I don't mean Taco Bell. I'm mean the Texas/Louisiana border. At this moment I'm sitting in a hotel room in Orange, Texas. Now Orange isn't exactly a destination for a lot of people...there's not really that much here. But it is only a few short miles from the state line and Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana. There are better casinos but I'm not here to gamble. I made the trek to see the Oak Ridge Boys. And what a night it was.
I was a bit concerned when I was only to get a third row ticket. I was in the third row last year and didn't have the greatest view. And although I was again in the third row the heavens did smile down upon because it was third row in the section smack in front of Joe and Duane. This year I could see EVERYONE on stage where last year I was doing good to get a glimpse of Richard.
And since I took the day off I was able to get in somewhat early and make a quick trip to check out the slots. I'm not a big gambler so it's not like I was itching to drop in loads of money. In fact, I was playing the penny slots...and when it was all said and done I won $15. So basically, my winnings took care of most of my casino 'purchases---basically a drink or two while killing time waiting for the show oh and a bite to eat. This year I was smart and got to the casino early so I could park in a decent place without having to practically hike back from the state line.
It was a wonderful day and a fantastic night. GREAT SHOW.

So much for intentions...
I intended to go to group therapy tonight but by the time I got away from work and could have gotten there it would have been 7:30p-ish...and then I'd only be staying till 9p. I decided given the distance and the fact I have to work tomorrow staying home would be the better option. I can still work on the challenge here and just may before the night is up.
It's been a draining day reading appeals and I still have a few to go. In addition to putting out fires and clearing up a few other loose ends. Tomorrow will be just as hectic trying to get everything taken care of before taking off on Friday...and I still need to find a hotel for Friday night!
I so very tired at the moment the thought of crawling in bed is what appeals most...perhaps it will be an 'early' night for me....

random thoughts...
It was Memorial Day weekend with of course, a coveted extra day off. I spent most of it in Austin just hanging out with Elsa. She cooked, we ate out a few times, watched some movies, did some scrap shopping and even a little scrapping. Oh and reading. As usual I came home with armloads of books. Why do I bother to buy books when I can just go to Elsa's and load up??? Between what I already have 'waiting' and what I brought home I have plenty to read and the pace I've been going for months, maybe even years! But I don't want that to be the case. I tell myself I'm going to read some every day...but that soon goes by the wayside too.
I did pick up a new book over the weekend that's NOT a romance/mystery/vampire novel. It's "We Are Their Heaven" by Allison Dubois. She's the meduim that the show Medium is based on. Now it's not something I watch and the book is something I wouldn't normally give a second glance, much less read. Something about it caught my eye the other afternoon and I knew I had to have it. It's a quick easy, read. I'd have finished it already if I had stayed up a bit later last night or settled down with it tonight. Maybe I will try to finish it tonight. It really goes well with book club this month since it's about remembering loved ones. Basically the book talks about how those we love who've passed never really leave us, how they are always around us, especially when we need them. Maybe it's silly, but it's given me some comfort. It's validated some things Mike has told me and it inspires me to scrap some things. Now if I'd just sit down and do the scrapping!
In addition to it being a short week due to the holiday yesterday, it's also a short week because I am off Friday! Making the quick trip to Vinton to see 'Da Boys. Third row but at least I'll get to see the show. After this who knows when I'll have the chance to catch another show. For my birthday perhaps if I'm able to make it up to Branson and I certainly want to try to get tickets to the Christmas shows in Lake Charles. Definitely Galveston in January.
On the way back I plan to swing through Pasadena to the stamp show. Since I decided not to make the trek to Arlington the following week I figure I can splurge a little if I should find something. Not spending a small fortune going to Arlington should allow me the indulgence of the Pasadena show and a goodie or two if there's something I really feel that I can't live without that is affordable. Just have to wait and see!

Finally Friday...ohh, Saturday by now....
Ahhhh, a three day weekend. We started summer hours this week which means in the office by 7:30a--UGH>>>>but it also means off at 12:3op on Fridays...YEAH. Went to crop this afternoon/evening only to find my friends had cancelled and not told me. And to think, earlier I was thinking it was not a good day for me but went. I stay anyway--afterall I'd driven all the way over there and paid my money. I did get something accomplished which was a good feeling...and was able to do a couple of pages and still get away early. Home by 11p.
Had some things to get done around here before I 'run to Austin' for the remainder of the weekend. And it's been a debate with myself about going because I have soooo much here to be done. I finally realized what mom always told me--it'll be here. Go, enjoy, have a good time. And I can use the get-away. No set plans and knowing us there's no telling where we'll end up! We do plan to scrap--but we'll see how far we make it with that.
The next two weeks will be short ones for me at work so I better enjoy them because I fear it's going to be a long, busy, crazy summer. And even though I'll still have over four days of vacation time, good luck finding time to schedule them.
Next week I 'run' to Vinton to see 'Da Boys'. Now if I can only get a hotel room! Still time to deal with that. Come back from that, work just shy of three days and then have a (self-scheduled) four day weekend. The plan was to go to the scrapbook convention in Arlington but once I did a few quick calculations the base cost of that made my decision. I figure it would cost more than my Branson vacation so home I stay. But that's okay and I'm actually looking forward to it. With luck I'll actually STAY HOME and get things done around here finally. Organizing, cleaning, scrapping. I'm going to try.
Now to finish picking up around here, maybe another load of laundry or two and then off to bed.

Feeling blueish...
The series finale of Gilmore Girls was last night. It's sad in a way to see it 'go'. I understand all good things must come to an end. And really, going any further probably wouldn't have lasted much longer since Rory is now a college graduate. But still it's like saying goodbye to good friends. Lorelai and Rory have been 'with me' since just before mom's death. Finding Gilmore Girls was like finding comfort. Sure I can watch it on DVD (though I only have a three of the seasons) but it just won't be the same. Goodbye Gilmore Girls..... I so hope there will be a reunion show in the future...maybe find that Luke and Lorelai did end up together and that Rory and Logan or even Rory and Dean got back together and all is 'right with the world'.
Guess it's just that hopeless romantic in me....

Relax....
...something I have got to figure out how to do. The muscles in my back are nothing but knots. The chiropractor is helping-some. He even commented Saturday that we've got to do something about the tight muscles--but no suggestions. Sometimes it's as though he takes his time, even spends extra and other days it feels as though I'm being rushed through. Just the basic adjustment m'am. No time for extra kneading or alignment. It's somewhat of a frustrating process really. Some days I feel great and others I have this annoying little continous pain. I feel progress...and then I feel setback. And I wonder in those times I feel setback if I'll be labeled as 'milking' it if I go in for an adjustment. Hell, I'm paying for--quite a bit too. And that brings a whole other set of stress.
I think it's just life getting me down at the moment. And of course hating myself for all the stupid things I've done in my life. The fall down the stairs and not doing anything for months being at the forefront of my mind.
I probably shouldn't have but I did splurge and go get a massage this afternoon. Only thirty minutes, but worth it. I finally got rid of the shoulder soreness I've had since leaving Branson. It wasn't the usual person I go to but it's something I can do from time to time and will try to do. With all the stress and everything else I need things to help me relax.
If only...

Back to Reality...
While I should have spent today at home, doing laundry, relaxing, getting ready to return to work I've actually been running most of the day. Had ten (yes, 10) rolls of film developed. I'm still trying to load the pictures from my digital camera--another 200 plus shots--but I'm having problems. I'm afraid I'm either gonna fry my camera or crash my computer...and I can't afford a new computer just yet.
So tomorrow I have to go back to the reality of the 8 to 5 gring and all the frustration and stress that goes with it. I 'ran' so much all last week I'm not sure I got any real rest. I know there were many things I had wanted to do, might normally have done that I just did not get around to. So, I'll 'go there in my head' and think about the next trip.
I also have a visit to the chiropractor tomorrow which I'm looking forward to. Thankfully I've not had a great deal of pain the last week but there have been a few times things weren't 'quite right'. And then there's the matter of a pain in my shoulder after picking up my suitcase yesterday morning. Lucky me. Just another reason to look forward to 5pm!

OMG!!!
So I'm here in Branson....running around and catching a show here and there. This afternoon was Tony Roi and tonight, Paul Revere and the Raiders and Bill Medley.
And I'm having fun with the new camera. I was going to try getting a few rolls of film from yesterday developed today till I checked prices. Single prints and a cd are more (here) than what it will cost for double prints and a cd at home. Guess I'll be waiting. I'm so very curious to see how the pictures come out.
Although I have the new 35mm, I'm still using the digital. Often taking as many digital as well as film. And tonight after the Paul Revere/Bill Medley show, Bill Medley's tour manager stopped me because he wants to see the pictures I took. I was in awe. Sending shots to Joe is one thing--though not well, he 'knows' me....this guy doesn't know my from Adam and yet he wants to see my pictures. It probably means nothing but it's fun to be asked!

Branson and other bits....
I knew it had been a while since I'd posted but didn't realize just how long. So much has been going on...a HUGE fall down an ENTIRE FLIGHT OF STAIRS the day after I last posted....and stupid, stupid me I did NOTHING till nearly three months later. Amazing what a person will do once they are in excruciating pain and hardly able to walk. But...thanks to a wonderul man (chiropractor) I am functional again. All of that is another story.
So anyway my topic is Branson....because THAT is where I am! Got in late Tuesday evening and did virtually nothing the first night...yesterday was spent running--which I knew it would be. Afterall, it was Wednesday and THE BOYS were in town. Oh the adventures. Places like this are 'interesting' and fun partly because you never know who you may run into and where....and it's even more fun when they 'know' you or at least partially recognize you. And of course, there's the 'one' that scares the s#@% out of you--but in a good way.
I don't know for certain just what it is about this place, but it's been the one place I can truly relax. I hope that continues to be the case. Things here, like everywhere, are changing so much. Going to the Lake Taneycomo waterfront just breaks my heart. I understand things change in the name of progress but I'm not so certain I care for this progress even if it does mean I can shop some favorite stores without having to drive to Springfield.....that used to be one of the adventures of the trip as well. I guess as long as I can still find 'peace' up here and the spots to get away from everything I'll be okay. And being able to slip in some time seeing favorite muscians is definite plus.
And Duane if you happen to read this...I'll get back to you on that garden!

No Ice....
...at least not yet. Yesterday was Martin Luther King Day so we were off and I spent the day doing basically nothing. The weather was yucky and there were predictions of rain and ice and freezing temperatures. I pretty much stayed home. I didn't really have anything I needed to do and though the thought of going shopping did pop into my head I knew I couldn't afford it. My big adventure was a run to wally world for a few things. As far as things around my place, I pretty much accomplished NOTHING. And then just after six or so I got a call that we'd be closed today and I'd have another day off....WAHOOOOOO...another morning to sleep in.
So here it is just after 4pm and again I've accomplished pretty much nothing. Unless you count making a run to the post office-with everyone else and another trip to wally world to return a shirt. Oh and gas was down to 1.99 so I filled up. But now here I sit in front of the computer when there are so many other things I could and should be doing. Putting away laundry, washing towels, cleaning off my dining table, trying to pick up the spare bedroom so it more favors a bedroom than a war zone, working on my taxes (yes, I have my W2 already), reading one of the many books I've vowed to get through, scrapping even. And yet I sit here in front of the computer wasting precious time and though supposedly the worst of the bad weather is to occur tonight I highly doubt we will be closed again tomorrow and a late start is probalby too much to ask for. We were the only college on the Gulf Coast not closed on Wednesday before hurricane Rita and now I think we're the only (community) college on the Gulf Coast to close for ice that never came. Guess I better get back in the mindset to return to work tomorrow. Oh well.

Winter Finally Arrives....
So it appears that 'winter' or South Texas' version of it has arrived....at least for a day or so. The temperature has dipped and promises to go down for the next day or so-at least according to all weather reports. This afternoon it was chilly and windy as I left for my monthly book club meeting. Forty five miles or so away (north) I arrived at my destination and opened my door to warm air. Not exactly what I was expecting. How is it the cooler weather had arrived at my home but not north of me? I'm sure everything thought I was nuts wearing long sleeves and a jacket. Good thing I didn't put on the heavier sweater I first thought of wearing--I would have been very uncomfortable. And so I'm home, nice and toasty inside (something I wasn't this time a year ago in my former domicile) listening to the rain come down steadily. I wonder if it will really be as nasty and icy tomorrow as the reports predict. Will I be stuck inside all day for safety's sake? Guess I'll just have to wait to see what morning brings. Whatever it may be, at least I can sleep in!

How did it get to be the 10th of the month already??
Ten days into 2007 and it seems to be flying by already. Wait....slow down.......wasn't it just yesterday that it was October? Seems as you get older time begins to move soooo much faster. Really, it does. Think about it. When you're a kid you don't think summer break or Christmas or your birthday is e-v-e-r going to arrive...but finally it does. And then you're a little older and stuck in that one class that you think will never end. Before you know it you're in college or out in the work-force or in the work-force while going to college and you just never seem to have a enough time. And then suddenly it's gone in the blink of an eye.
That's pretty much how I felt about Christmas break (yes Christmas, not winter) this year. Often it seemed so far away and finally it arrived. I had great plans...go to Wichita Falls (which I did), see some movies (never did), catch up on reading (nope), maybe even do some things around home (not even close). Before I knew it, new years had passed and I was returning to work. And now we're back into the grind. Oh what fun. At least spring break is coming!

One More Day....
....just one more day of leisure and then it's back to the daily chaos. This happens every year, the night before my last day of winter break I realize there were so many things I had wanted to do but never quite seemed to fit in. And now of course I want to cram as much as I can into that last day without being totally exhausted at the end.
I didn't really do anything to speak of yesterday or today. Somewhat wasted days really but then sometimes you just have to have some time to do nothing but veg on the couch and watch mediocre television...and that's what I've done. Actually I've been watching marathon showings of Ugly Betty. I'm hooked on this show and can hardly wait to see what happens on the next episode. Must be something about 'rooting for the underdog' that appeals.
I'm not certain what I'm going to tackle tomorrow, on my last day of 'freedom' for a while. I've thought about a trip to the art museum-which I should have done already. I missed the dog in art but still have time to see the cat exhibit-but only limited time as it ends in a couple of weeks.
Guess I'll see what I feel like when I get up in the morning!
