Weekend recap

Whew...I'm wiped out!!

Friday I hit the ground running after work and headed to the Hampton Inn in Clear Lake. Checked in then met the girls for yummy Fish Place dinner and a then Debby Schuh's Just Be Album class. Debby is the nicest person and so talented! After class I headed back to the hotel to turn in thinking it would be an early night.

Just about the time I get in my jammies and climb in bed the fire alarm goes off...and it's deafening. I get dressed, grab my purse and head downstairs. Seems like it too f-o-r-e-v-e-r for the fire department to arrive. Do you know hot humid it was Friday night?!?!?!? They finally allow people to re-enter though no one ever really makes any sort of announcement. Apparently there were some unsupervised children who managed to break off an automatic sprinkler head resulting in four floors being flooded---thankfully I was on the 5th floor!

Saturday morning I dressed, gather my things and headed back to By Design for more wonderful classes. Damn that Tim Holtz and his tiny attacher--another scrap 'toy' I had to purchase! Two classes with Debby with a quick lunch in between. Uneventful an oh so cute.

Classes wrap up, I settle my bill and hit the road. About a mile or so away I notice I've been double charged--for a $15 item so I turn around. Money refunded no problem then on the road again...or so I thought.

My car will not start! It cannot be jump started....so I end up calling AAA and being towed to Wharton. The wrecker driver unloads the car and it immediately starts. WTF? I take advantage and run through a drive thru then home. I check before bed and the car starts right up.

First thing Sunday morning I head out and the car starts up. I kill the engine and attempt to restart it....nothing. Ruben comes by to check and it appears the battery--only a few weeks old is dead. He pulls it and takes it to charge. He returns a few hours later with a fully charged battery...and still nothing. There are no codes showing on any of his meters to indicate the issue. He's stumped and now I will be sending it to the mechanic. Lucky me.

I have hopes it will start for me in the morning to take it and just have someone pick me up. If not, I'll get with the mechanic about having it towed to the shop. I hope it's nothing major that can be repaired easily and fairly inexpensively. Keep positive toughts coming my way!!

What a day.....

Woke up late, hour late getting into the office.....listening to Good Morning America while getting dressed (as usual) they were promoting a special scheduled for tonight on Farrah Fawcett and touting how poorly she was doing. The comment was even made that she wasn't expected to live through the day.......

Around noon it was posted through various media sources that she had indeed passed away.

Later in the afternoon a coworker commented that she was seeing online where Michael
Jackson had been rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest. I wondered out loud if he would be the next as deaths tend to occur in threes......Ed McMahon earlier in the week and then FF earlier in the day.

I got in my car to leave Joey's after stopping to pick up adhesive to hear the DJ talking about the passing of Michael Jackson.

Several media outlets have had almost nonstop coverage of MJs death, even playing and replaying the tape of his body being taken to the coroner's office for autopsy.

The similarities between Elvis' death and MJ hit me.....

Elvis: King of Rock
MJ: King of Pop

Elvis: preparing for a comeback tour at the time of his death
MJ: preparing for a comeback tour at the time of his death

Elvis: dead from a heart attack
MJ: dead from a heart attack reportedly...

Elvis: fans gathered in large crowds to mourn together and lots of media coverage
MJ: fans gathered in large crowds to mourn together and lots of media coverage

Elvis: died in the bathroom
MJ: wonder what room he was found in.....

MJ married to Elvis' daughter at one time....

So that's my observations of a strange day......now to gather my things together so I can create with Debby Schuh the next two days!

Anticipation.....

I'm suffering from a case of anticipation.....bad. So looking forward to this weekend and the Debby Schuh classes. Fun classes and fun company. It's been a short week for me and it seems to have gone fairly quick yet at the same time it seems it's dragging on forever! Maybe that's just the hours between 7:30a and 5p!

Had a great time with Joey and her kid's group last night. We made a cute memo board and the girls were adorable. So nice and polite....refreshing to see after the rudeness I so often encounter. They're a fun group. I can almost imagine that's about what we would have been at that age. Scrapping can create such great friendships.

TOO hot to move!!

As usual, I had grand illusions of coming in from work, grabbing a bite to eat and spend the evening creating. The heat seems to have zapped what little energy I have and I've spent the evening lounging. I did manage to get dinner pulled together and the kitchen cleaned after, and I've ironed clothes for tomorrow but now I want to do nothing. Well that's not totally correct. I want to do stuff, my energy level just does not want to cooperate with me! The AC is set about 74, seems to have been running nonstop and yet it still seems rather warm in here. Cost be damned, looks like I'll have to crank it down to sleep--which I think I could do at this very moment! Maybe tomorrow I will accomplish something!

Mom would be so proud!!

Made a weekend trip to Ft. Worth and just like weekend trips with mom, I turned a roughly three hour drive (from San Antonio to Ft Worth) into a roughly seven hour drive! Nicole and I shopped our way to Ft Worth, all over and back. We hit outlets, baby stores, scrap stores and restuarants. We even threw in a stop at Ikea!

The Oaks with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra were fabulous!! It was fun getting to visit with Mike and catch up on was roughly his first full day in town too.

Fort Worth Fun...

Shopped our way from San Antonio to Fort Worth....only took seven hours! Surprisingly we didn't spend too much...at least I don't think we did. As usual, we packed everything we could into the time we had....shopping, visited with my brother, had dinner at my favorite place and ended the evening with a carriage ride through Sundance Square and downtown Ft.Worth. Off for a fun filled Saturday culminating in seeing the Boys!

Maternity Shopping

I went maternity shopping tonight. Yes, I said maternity shopping....but not for me. Had ya wondering there for a minute, didn't I?? Nicole and I went to dinner where the discussion turned to the weekend and her dilemma in finding cute maternity clothing. She has been hesitant to shop at maternity stores afraid the cost might be too astronomical. I mentioned I've noticed signs at the maternity store in the mall indicating sale prices cheaper than my clothes! Off we go to Motherhood Maternity. The sales girl was an absolute doll and we spent over an hour with Nic putting on a fashion show--and yes I have pictures to scrap! She found the cutest black dress that will be perfect for a night at the symphony or a night on the town with hubby. A very productive evening!

Tomorrow morning we head to Ft. Worth and what may be her last girl's weekend for a while. We're looking forward to a weekend of fun with the Oaks. As a bonus, I get to see my brother too!!!

I'm ready for my close up!

HOW?

Q. How do you create when your creative space looks like this??
A. You don't....but with any luck within the next few weeks it won't look that way and I will be able to create....

Moving Right Along....

That sums up the week thus far. Seems I blinked and it's Wednesday. Not a bad thing just can't believe how time seems to be flying! So many things to be done both at work and home. Despite the craziness at work two fun weekends (three if you count July 4th) coming up. This weekend--which begins at 5p today for me---San Antonio, Dallas, Nic, Oaks, Mike (hopefully)...Monday to recover and regroup then next weekend is full of Debby Schuh classes and anniversary at By Design. Fun, fun, fun!!

Evening flew by...

Before I knew it, Monday evening has flown by. Straight from the office to the chiropractor then a stop by Walmart for a few things. On the way home a stop at Vicki's to look after her critters then home to wait on Schwan's delivery. Once that happened it was off to the local Walmart to pick up prescriptions--and I had to wait for a partial on one which means I'll have to go back tomorrow or the next day for the remainder. By then it was after 9p. Seems like I turned around twice and here it is approaching 11p and I need to get to bed...but I still have things to be accomplished!

I've had better....

...weekends that is. Started out fine. Friday I headed in for lunch at PF Changs with a friend--the company was great and the food yummy. I did a little shopping after while waiting for Carol to get off. Picked up some makeup--went to Barnes and Noble and bought nothing (so rare for me!). Met Carol at the village and got Pampered Chef goodies then headed home. Or actually, straight to Joey's.

Friday evening was fabulous hanging out with Joey. We chatted and made the cutest cards! Always a good time with her. Then stupid me left my phone and felt so totally lost. What's up with that??? When and why did I become so attached and addicted??? Oh and I almost forgot to mention that thanks to facebook, I am now in contact with my very first best friend. Kim and I were inseparable in elementary school...then we moved and as can happen, we drifted apart. Very much looking forward to catching up with her again.

Saturday I tried being domestic and well if you know me, you know that was a stretch!! I got a few things done but not as much as I really should have. I figure that's okay, I'm entitled to take it easy. Course now that means I'll be in overdrive trying to get things done before leaving for San Antonio/Ft Worth.

Then today arrived...sooooo full of promise! Joey and I had planned a Target trip and a movie after I got off work. Yep, I said work. Had to go in to test some software--a whole other story. Anywho...as the morning progressed I began to think the movie idea might not be so good since what we want to see didn't show till nearly 7p. Quick change of plans, no problem. We'd make the Target run (I need to pick up another book case) and then we'd spend the afternoon creating. Then I get the brilliant idea that I want to get my hair cut! Yes, finally!

Another change of plans...we'll head to the mall after I get off then back to create and watch the basketball game. So far, so good. We get to Visible Changes and I tell the woman I want a Style Director or Art Director, nothing lower. She tells me it will be approximately an hour and a half before I can get in. I check with Joey and go for it (should have been my first clue). So Joey and I proceed to kill time shopping. Joey got the cutest bag at Dillards and it was on sale--gotta love that! Even if she does keep calling me the devil. But Joey, it was half the price of the first one you looked at!!! You know if was a bargain!

So after a few other stops we stroll back to Visible Changes and I check in even though it's still 20 or so minutes till my appoointment time. I flip through one of the books and find a cut similar to what I'm thinking. I get called back, get my hair shampooed and directed to the chair. This is really where I should have started questioning when I was telling the girl what I wanted and she was confused. It's not like I wanted anything drastic, just shorter (yes, shorter) and really full--kinda like Rachel Ray's hair.

The chick was clueless. She consulted the guy next to her who at this point I'm thinking I should have working on my hair. He played with my hair, told her what to do, chatted with me. Ok off and cutting. Uneventful except I could feel the start of a headache. No big deal I thought. It was a bit warm in the mall and I was hot so I figured once out of the chair I'd grab a drink and be good. She finished up the cut and though not quite what I'd shown her it was cute--though she didn't really do much styling. Odd but okay, my head was starting to throb and I was feeling a bit warm but thought I'd be okay.

Here's where it really starts to go south.... I get to the counter to check out and the girl tells me the price. HUH? It should have been about double that amount for a director. I asked what level of cutter I had. Hair Stylist--the lowest level at VC which means basically she may not have been out of school that long. WHAT?? I'm not knocking beginners, eveyone has to start somewhere and heaven knows I've had my share of beauty school students (I used to go to the local cosmetology school when I was at SHSU).

I specifically asked for a director level. The girl gets the so called co-manager who is the person that scheduled me. When I ask her why I was not given what I requested all she could say was that, 'normally when someone requests a certain level......yadda, yadda, yadda'. EXCUSE ME, I DID request a specific level. Never once did she apologize or admit she screwed up. Thankfully I do like the haircut but the fact remains I did NOT get what I requested. I WILL be calling corporate tomorrow!!

I wish that were the end of the story but alas, it is not. By this time my head is really starting to pound but I think I can make it. Joey and I head to the car but before I can even make it out of the parking lot good the headache hits full force and is starting to morph into a migraine. OH CRAP. Thankfully Joey was with me so she could drive me home because I never would have made it out the parking lot. We made it to Wharton in what seems like record time---THANK YOU JOEY! She gets her sweet husband to pick her up at my place and I manage to drag myself up the stairs.

There was a trail of clothing from the front door to the bedroom...I managed to find and choke down some migraine meds (gotta call the doc tomorrow for a refill) and fall into bed. I think it was near 5p when we got back and I slept till 9p. I'm up now, feeling much better than when I got in--thankfully--and not too happy about the outcome of the afternoon. I am so very greatful to Joey for rescuing me. Thankfully I still like the cut--ask me more tomorrow when I actually try to style it! I've accomplished nothing this evening and now need to get myself together and go back to bed so I can get up for work in the morning!

Modern Technology....

There have been times I think I was born in the wrong era due to some of my ideals but when it comes to technology, I feel I am the right place. We've gotten spoiled with having everything at our fingertips and I am no different. I love that I now have internet access on my phone so I can check email or update Facebook (since I've gotten hooked on that). I can text friends while waiting places and time passes much quicker. Tonight I am loving the ability to order pizza online and follow its progress...from being made, to going in the oven, to being boxed---Thank You Dominos.

Celebrate...

I feel the need to celebrate.....I started the Betaseron shots one year ago today! I've had minimal reactions--thank goodness--and have only forgotten one time. Trying to think of something to mark the occassion.....

Evening Accomplishments....

It's not much but I did manage to accomplish a couple of things this evening.

I got a couple of cds loaded onto itunes and thus onto my ipod.

I printed some pictures I need to finish a mini book I worked on over the weekend.

I ironed something for work in the morning.

Like I said....it's not much, but it's something!

On another note, big brother is moving down to Hurst in a few weeks. Sucks in some ways, is great in others. I told him he could come get mom's bed if he wanted so he wouldn't have to buy one and he said he might. The major thing that means for me is I would be able to use the entire spare bedroom as a studio! How cool would that be. The down side would be no extra bed in the event of company...but that hasn't happened in three years so big whoop. Lots to think about it that happens.

Good Intentions...

...you know what's said about those! I had intentions of accomplishing several things over the past few days (yes I know Carol, lists...I have them--just not written down!). I just don't seem to have enough time or energy! Those two things kinda go hand-in-hand.

I'm looking at the calendar and I realize I have about a week before my San Antonio/Fort Worth trip which means I'd better get my act together! Need to figure out what I want to wear thus what needs to be washed, packed, etc. I really, really, really need to get the new IPOD loaded. And while I'm looking at the calendar I need to figure out what other 'events' are upcoming and I need to find a few days to take those last few precious days off. It would really help if I knew for certain about the national conference in July--it's in San Antonio this year so I might get to go!

It's getting late and I really should get to bed. There is lots of work on my desk to tackle. Hopefully tomorrow will go as quickly as today seemed to go. I have a few pictures I'll try to get up tomorrow evening.

Clicking right along...

That sums up how things are going at the moment....the days of the year, my life.....just moving along. Which is good. If you're anywhere in the south you know summer has definitely hit....it's hotter than blazes out there.....

Being Lazy....

Things have been busy and I have been on the go but when I haven't I've been taking advantage of down time being lazy. Today for instance. I decided at the last minute to take the afternoon off. No plans, no real reason other than I don't want to lose time again this year. So despite all the work on my desk and the start of summer school just around the corner, I took the afternoon off! At one point I had grand illusions of actually accomplishing things like creating, watching movies, picking up. In the end I watched a little tv and napped. And it was all a good thing. So there are still lots of things I want to work on...and there are still things that need to be picked up....and or course there are still many movies to be watched but that's okay. They can all wait for another time, another day!

Just a day and a half left this week and there's lots to be done so hopefully the work day will fly. Looking forward to meeting a friend for lunch Friday afternoon and then scrapping with the girls on Saturday. Sunday will be a day to recoup and regroup.
